Who will be providing care during my pregnancy and birth?

  • Our seasoned midwives at Haven Birth and Wellness are dedicated to providing personalized care throughout your pregnancy, during birth, and into the postpartum period. Learn more about our amazing team, and know you are in good hands when you are with us.

What is the midwifery model of care?

  • The midwifery model at Haven Birth and Wellness emphasizes personalized and holistic care, promoting low to no intervention childbirth, and providing continuous support during labor and birth, embodying the essence of care and comfort.

The midwifery model sets the mother’s well-being, experience, and comfort as the central focus of prenatal care. This model sees each soon-to-be mother as a unique person, with their own expectations, beliefs, knowledge, and worries about their pregnancy. The midwife’s role is more than just to deliver the baby. They also offer counseling, education, and emotional support from the beginning of this journey, from prenatal to postpartum care.

Do you offer home births?

  • Yes, as part of our comprehensive services, we provide care for home births for low-risk pregnancies, ensuring the continuity of care in the comfort of your home.

We offer personalized labor and birth support to ensure you have a fulfilling birth experience. For a home birth we also stay with you afterwards for a minimum of 2 hours to ensure both you and your newborn are healthy. During this time we can offer breastfeeding support, clean up any “mess”, and help you to rest and bond with your child in the safety and comfort of your own home.

Is A Home Birth Safe?

  • Yes. With the guidance and care of a well-qualified certified midwife, a home birth can be a safe experience for both you and the baby.

Our midwives are regularly trained for emergency situations and we stay up to date on neonatal resuscitation and CPR training. A licensed midwife will be by your side throughout the entire process, and for a few hours postpartum to ensure everyone is healthy and safe. Across the globe, nearly 80% of people alive today were born with midwives, and oftentimes countries where midwifery is common practice boast the lowest infant mortality rates.

At Haven Birth and Wellness, we view water birth as an embrace from nature, providing a tranquil environment that facilitates a smoother transition for the baby from the womb to the world.

What happens if complications arise during labor?

  • Yes, family involvement is encouraged at our birth center in Central Texas, providing a family-friendly environment for a memorable birthing experience.

The partner or any other family member can attend and be as involved as you are both comfortable with. For an at home birth, family involvement is strongly encouraged as it helps to maintain a familiar and safe environment for the birth.

Am I A Good Candidate For Out-Of-Hospital Birth?

  • Absolutely, many women find an out-of-hospital birth to be a fitting choice for their childbirth experience. How long can I stay at the birth center post-birth?

  • The length of stay varies, but typically, families go home from the birth center 4 to 6 hours post birth to enjoy their newborn. This allows time for us to monitor you and baby closely after delivery and ensure you are both stable and healthy before discharge.

During this time, you will be able to rest, recover, and bond with your newborn while remaining under our care. We will monitor your vitals, bleeding, and offer breastfeeding support. Why Would I Need Chiropractic Care

  • The journey of pregnancy and postpartum brings about profound changes in your body, and chiropractic care can be a valuable support during these transformative times. During pregnancy, your body adapts to accommodate the growing baby, which can sometimes result in discomfort, pain, or misalignments, particularly in the spine and pelvis. Regular chiropractic care can provide relief by ensuring proper spinal and pelvic alignment, relieving pressure on your nerves and joints, and enhancing your overall flexibility and comfort.

At Haven Birth and Wellness, our chiropractic services are designed to provide holistic support, ensuring you experience a comfortable, healthy, and joyful journey through pregnancy and beyond. Your well-being is our priority, and we are here to provide expert care that supports your body's natural ability to adapt and thrive during these beautiful life stages.

What is the difference between the Midwifery Model of Care and the Obstetric Model of Care?

  • The Midwifery Model of Care and the Obstetric Model of Care represent two distinct approaches to prenatal care and childbirth. At Haven Birth and Wellness, we champion the Midwifery Model, which emphasizes a holistic, personalized approach, supporting natural childbirth and continuous care throughout pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. This model encourages family involvement and views childbirth as a natural process, providing a nurturing environment for both mother and baby.

On the other hand, the Obstetric Model of Care is more medically oriented, often involving more routine interventions and monitoring during pregnancy and childbirth. This model tends to view childbirth through a medical lens, with a focus on identifying and managing potential complications.

At Haven Birth and Wellness, we strive to provide a compassionate setting where expectant parents can experience a natural and supported childbirth, aligning with the core principles of the Midwifery Model of Care.
